Bulls on the Loose - Anarchy Before Daybreak

Sunrise sounded a little different this morning.

You see… it’s not quite breeding season.

BUT… the bulls think it is.

As the sun peeked over the horizon, I was laying there enjoying the sounds of cows waking up… and then I heard a bull.

Wait.

That bull sounds WAY too close.

The bulls are supposed to be way behind the house in a pipe corral…

Sure enough, I peeked out the window and DreamDirt was happily bellering and pawing dirt directly outside my bedroom window trying to impress cows.

Crap.

They got the gate open.

And we absolutely do NOT want bulls breeding cows right now… unless we want calves arriving in snowstorms next winter.

So I throw on clothes and head outside.

ANARCHY.

Complete anarchy.

The bulls had apparently been playing and fighting most of the night.

They knocked TWO bull-sized holes through their pen into the heifers…
AND completely trashed the gate into the cow pasture.

So now we need a new plan.

Sort bulls.
Move bulls.
Fix gates.
Plug holes.
Try to outsmart 2,000 pound animals determined to go wherever they want.

We finally get one hole blocked off…

And while we’re fixing THAT one, the bulls decide they’re unhappy without fresh grass and shove another hole into the next pasture.

Bulls.

If they want somewhere bad enough, they just put their heads down and GO.

That… or they’re fighting and push their buddy through the fence for fun.

They’ve lived together peacefully all winter, but this time of year?

Well… boys start showing off.

And fences lose.

P.S. We only have TWO beef shares left for Summer Delivery before we close deliveries until Fall.

I’d truly love for you to reserve your beef now… because apparently I need more pipe to fix four bull-sized holes in our corrals.
